Prayer is simpler than you think
Prayer is simply talking with God. There's no special formula, no magic words, and no wrong way to do it. God already knows your heart—prayer is about building a relationship.
If you don't know where to begin, start with these simple steps:
-
Be still Take a moment to quiet your mind. A few deep breaths can help you become present.
-
Speak honestly Tell God what's on your heart. Your fears, your gratitude, your questions—all are welcome.
-
Listen Prayer isn't just talking. Sit in the silence and be open to what God might say to you.
-
End with trust Close by placing your concerns in God's hands. An "Amen" simply means "so be it."
Matthew 6:6
"But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
It's okay not to have the right words
Sometimes we don't know what to pray. That's perfectly normal. In those moments, you can:
• Pray a traditional prayer like the Lord's Prayer above
• Simply sit in God's presence without words
• Read a Psalm and let the ancient words become your prayer
• Just say "Help"—God understands
Romans 8:26
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."
Lord, I don't always know how to pray,
but I come to you anyway.
Meet me where I am.
Speak to my heart.
Guide my steps this day.
Amen.
